Aneros Helix Sex Toy Review

Don't ask me why, but I wanted to try my hand at wrting a sex toy review. I'd never done it before, you know. I had to think a bit about which toy from my collection I should write about. I could have written about the Fleshlight, or about the Hitachi Magic Wand, however I've had way more fond memories with the Aneros that I ended up choosing that little gem. Following is my first stab at a review. :) (Yes, I realze it's devoid of kink-specific uses. The Aneros makes a pretty mean teasing device if prostate stimulation gets you going.)

When most men hear the word "prostate" I bet they immediately conjure up images of bending over at the doctor's bracing for a horrible experience. When I hear the word "prostate," however, I think of sex. Good sex. So what's the difference between me and most people? Well, probably many things, but at least one of them is that I own an Aneros Helix, a male prostate massager.

Okay, okay, by "prostate massager" what I really mean is sex toy. This little anal toy isn't quite a dildo nor is it like those standard butt plugs you might be familiar with. In fact, if you've never had any experience with anal stimulation, I'd say skip the butt plugs and go straight for a prostate massager like this one. Prostate massagers, of which the Aneros line was one of the first, are curvy, rather bulbous insertables whose scientifically designed shape is intended to gently ride along your prostate as you flex your buttocks—all on their own.

When I first got the Aneros (and I'm not emabrassed to admit it) I already had my fair share of experience with anal penetration, however I had never tried a prostate stimulator. I was curious about what it would feel like, so soon after I got home I had slipped a condom and some lube on the toy and gently pushed it toward my unsuspecting prostate. It immediately felt great, like a little finger pressing at the base of my penis from inside my body, but that was just a teaser.

The truly amazing feelings didn't start until I started to masturbate. As I masturbated, I involuntarily clenched my ass slightly. I hadn't even noticed that I did this before, but now whenever I would do so the Aneros would slide a little bit further inside me and then slide back again, running itself over my prostate with each stroke. It felt so good so quickly I actually stopped masturbating so it would last longer. This wasn't a filling sensation like all the other dildo and plug toys I had experienced before, it was a rubbing sensation, but it was rubbing from the inside out.

When I finally did allow myself to orgasm with the Aneros still inside me, the sensations were more powerful because with each orgasmic contraction the Aneros was dutifully pumping away at my prostate. Since then, the Aneros has become one of my favorite masturbation and sex enhancers in my toy collection. Just think about all that buttocks-flexing sex requires!

The Aneros actually comes in several different models of varying sizes, just in case you don't think your sphincter will appreciate the largest size. Personally, even at 1 and 1/16 of an inch in diameter at the tip I found the Helix a little small, so I don't think I'd get much out of any of the thinner models and am eager to try a larger one.

I'm so jealous of male anatomy sometmies.

I bought an Aneros (though I can't remember which one, it was the only one available at the time) a while ago, and it was a *big* hit with a partner who otherwise eschews anal play.

Nice review, btw.

It's rather a sad thing, I think, that so many men are so ignorant of their bodies much in the way many women are.

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks, Mistress 160! Any advice for a newbie like me? Your descriptions of playtime with Sol are so lovely.

but no pix lol?!

Well, it's kind of a difficult sort of thing to shoot photos of, really. But I'll ask Eileen to take a few choice photos for you if you'd like. ;)

Nice review... I have some questions, not sure where to begin.

I'm a straight guy with an AMAZING girlfriend. She was the one who got me into anal play initially, in the form of giving her analingus, which I enjoyed giving very much. That was about a year ago. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, when I have this really hot dream of me receiving analingus from her, and it was fantastic. I haven't broached that subject just yet, as I don't know how comfortable she'd be doing that. However now I'm really curious about anal play. I've had a Fleshlight for a while, and saw this product on their website. Have read some reviews, and they've all been glowing. So I'm thinking I'd like to give this a try. Before I make the plunge (pardon the pun hahah) I just want to know:

Are all guys capable of experiencing prostate pleasure? I don't want to drop the money (I'm a college student) and find out that this doesn't work for me.

Secondly, I've heard that men have some kind of prostate fluid buildup, and that may be discharged with prostate stimulation. What kind of precautions should I take to minimize any mess?

Finally, how much time should I set aside to fully enjoy this thing? I can sit down with my Fleshlight and get off really quick if I need to (15 minutes roundtrip when I hurry), is the Aneros something that requires 45 minutes of free time at least?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

Hey Kris! ACK! Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. I actually thought I already had and then flaked. Anyways, in answer to your questions:

"Are all guys capable of experiencing prostate pleasure? I don't want to drop the money (I'm a college student) and find out that this doesn't work for me."

The short answer is that all guys are capable of experiencing prostate pleasure but that this sensation doesn't feel the same for all guys. Some guys like myself are incredibly responsive to it, and yet others are not. There's no real way to know how your body will react before you try it unfortunately, so you'll just have to give it a go.

However, instead of starting out spending money on a toy you're not sure you'll use, try using your own fingers first. My first experience masturbating with prostate stimulation was when I was a young teen and I discovered that I could finger myself anally while laying on my back in the bathtub. If this feels really good when you do it, ask your girlfriend to try it on you and then when you're ready spend the money on a toy.

If this doesn't do much for you, then, meh, don't spend the cash. :)

"Secondly, I've heard that men have some kind of prostate fluid buildup, and that may be discharged with prostate stimulation. What kind of precautions should I take to minimize any mess?"

All men have prostate fluid buildup—it's a normal and healthy part of our sex organs. Regular ejaculations often release this buildup to a large extend. What you're reading about regarding possibly discharges are basically "non-orgasmic ejaculations." That is, the discharge is very similar to regular ejaculatory semen but it has been discharged from the body without the powerful propelling thrusts of an ordinary ejaculation.

This is important because there's no reason why you should try to minimize mess. If you happen to discharge semen via prostate stimulation, then that's a lovely thing and a wonderful experience and part of the point. Instead of minimizing mess, just make sure you have paper towels or your favorite (safe) cleaning supplies at hand.

"Finally, how much time should I set aside to fully enjoy this thing? I can sit down with my Fleshlight and get off really quick if I need to (15 minutes roundtrip when I hurry), is the Aneros something that requires 45 minutes of free time at least?"

This is also kind of up to you; I found it immediately effective when I first started playing with it, but this may also have been because I'm simply very responsive to prostate stimulation to begin with. The manufacturer suggests that learning how to focus your attention on the parts of your body involved with the toy, the anus and the prostate and so on, will yield more pleasureable results, and so that's why they say you should set aside a good deal of time for it.

In reality, you can spend as much or as little time as you want. Keep in mind that this isn't like regular masturbatory sessions where you may be able to start pumping your penis with a lubed hand and then come in a minute or two. Prostate stimulation just doesn't work that way for most people. However, if you want to couple a masturbatory session like that with prostate stimulation, there's no reason why it doesn't have to last a total of two minutes. :)

Have fun.

Ever tried the Aneros together with the Fleshlight and a fat steel cockring? It's more than two hands full but it's better than Heaven.
