M, what are the post and comment feeds for your new blog addy?

Also, I've been thinking about going the same dot-com route for my own blog. Can I ask who's hosting yours and if you've got any recommendations for a newb?

Feeds for the posts and comments should be self-discoverable by any modern browser, but they are explicitly as follows:

All posts feed: http://maybemaimed.com/feed/

All comments feed: http://maybemaimed.com/comments/feed/

I am really horrible at any sort of brand loyalty type of decision. I went with DreamHost because they are currently running a nifty promotion that gave me $110.10 off my purchase price and I am a cheap bastard. :)

As for advice for newbies, well, I have a lot, but I'd hardly consider you a newbie, Tom. ;)

I use Google Reader, and while I can usually figure out how to get a feed link, sometimes the Comment feeds give me trouble. Asking you seemed easier ;-)

I'm not really a n00b, but it's been a while since I've ftp'd my website to a server and all that. I've been talking to people lately about their favorite hosting sites, and interestingly, out of the ten or twelve people I've asked, I've had hardly any overlapping answers.

:) Fair enough. Though please don't actually use FTP. It's horribly insecure. Use SSH's SFTP instead.

This is because they're all exactly the same. It's interesting to me how technology companies who are nothing more than commodity resellers try to differentiate their products from one another, and even more amusing to me that people tend to fall over themselves with brand loyalty for this or that company for what are, technically, completely arbitrary and non-technical reasons. Meh, whatever.

As someone who has to deal with technical things on a daily basis in the manufacturing sector, I've learned to weight heavily for tech support. I'm pretty good at figuring things out, but when things go all wahooney shaped I want answers NOW! When the server is down, is it me or is it them? When email isn't getting through, where's the problem? When a plugin makes a hash out of the website, can I recover?

I'm one of those guys who will tinker for a while until I've learned a bit, and then leave it alone, except for minor tweaking. Having mega-space isn't as important to me now as, say, getting an answer when I want one.

Yeah all the same level of preety bad really.
The low end hosting market is now so glutted with choices that compete these days on drive space and bandwidth for your dollar but overload the shared hosting boxs they share at the same time.

Nowadays the primary difference between shared hosting and dedicated is service and do you actually have a responsive website.

I wish there was a more techno reason to differentiate by but primarily the only way to differentiate the services in the shared hosting market is service and uptime and lack of annoyance by customers while using said services.

Of any of the hosts the only 2 i have any opinion about are lunarpages and dreamhost, lunar cause i use them and have really nothing to say about what they give you other than for the most part it works except when they have an issue and dream because i have a friend who works for them.

Outside that trying to rate the hosts thru any of the services on the net I cant make a single distinction about any of them as to being good bad or indifferent.
